FANCOURT APPOINTS BRETT CASTLEMAN AS HOTEL GENERAL MANAGER
Fancourt, voted South Africa’s Best Luxury Golf Resort (2011 World Luxury Hotel Awards), has announced the appointment of Brett Castleman as Hotel General Manager. Castleman brings with him more than 10 years’ international hotel management experience, most recently gained as General Manager of the five-star Sea Cliff Resort & Spa in Zanzibar, which he opened with his team in 2010.
Born and educated in Durban, Castleman (41) boasts a distinguished international career that includes 20 years of hospitality experience in 4 and 5 star properties in Africa, the Indian Ocean Islands and the Caribbean, including management positions at several top resorts. He completed his National Diploma in Hotel Management at the Durban Hotel School in 1990, before he started his career at Karos Bayshore Hotel in Richards Bay. In 1998 Castleman spread his wings to Mauritius, where he was appointed as the General Manager of Blue Lagoon Beach Hotel. This was followed by positions at Rex Resorts in both Kenya and Grenada in the Caribbean; and the five-star private Alphonse Island Resort in Seychelles, as well as the Bluebay Hotel Group in Zanzibar, which has kept him abreast of global hospitality trends.
Fancourt CEO Kerrin Titmas welcomed him onboard and said that Fancourt is thrilled to have Castleman oversee the management and operations of both the Fancourt Hotel and the Fancourt Manor House boutique hotel. ‘Brett’s vast international experience complements our goal to foster the Fancourt brand, and to develop our product further – redefining the luxury hospitality experience on South Africa’s Garden Route. Having enjoyed many adventures around the world, including surviving Hurricane Ivan in 2004 while working at the Grenadian Beach Resort in the Caribbean, Castleman says he is very excited to return to his South African roots. ‘Together with my wife Karen and our 10-year old son Joshua, I look forward to becoming part of the greater George community, and relish this wonderful opportunity for our family to live the idyllic Fancourt resort lifestyle.
